Replacing Swimming Pool Pump Motors
The swimming pool pump is one of the important equipments needed for the smooth functioning of a swimming pool. It helps in the water circulation. The pool pump's heart is its motor which helps in its revolutions. There are times when one needs to replace the swimming pool pump motors. It may happen because of breakdown and/or wearing. It may also happen because of motor burn out. There may be other reasons as well. The pool pump motors can be replaced easily. It can be done by even an average swimming pool owner. These pool pump motors have four non-threaded holes for bolts. These holes help attach pump with the motor. Motor has a threaded shaft. These motors are common in many pumps, like STA-RITE, PurexTrition, PacFab, and WhisperFlo pool pumps. There are single phase and there phase motors. These motors can be replaced, if the pool pump owner is comfortable with the electrical wiring. But, every pump in the market may not be like the one you already have. But, while you change your pool pump motor, keep in mind a few points. When you change it, ensure the electricity is cut off. It means you have to turn off the breaker, and not just switch off the pump switch. There is a motor mounting attached with four bolts to the motor. This is, in turn, attached to the strainer basket. You have to disconnect the clamp there. Now the motor can be separated from the strainer. When it is separated, there will be a volute that may seem as a loose piece. Volute remains with the strainer or it can also be with the motor. Between the motor bracket and the strainer, there will be an O-ring or a gasket. You have to check this completely, and then remove it, if necessary. Then, lift the motor and bracket to get out with wiring easily. There will be bare copper wire connected to the motor's outside part. After that, you have to remove the cover-plate from the motor's back. You should keep a green wire. This is the ground wire. There should be four other wires. The lead wiring is black and white, and can be in other colors, except green. You have to disconnect the wires. As a necessary next step, you have to remove the impeller. To do it, just remove the covering of the volute. Go to the other end of the motor, and put off the plate that covers the shaft. The shaft may have a slot for the screw driver. You can unscrew and remove the impeller. You also see the bolts there in the mounting basket. You can unbolt them. Then you are ready to install the new motor to the pump. You can replace the motor following the reverse process, bolt the pump, and place it on the place from where it was taken out. Swimming pool pump motors will then be replaced with the new one. And, your pool pump will be back in the business. |
